With the recent wasp explosion this article is a useful read. It has a number of ways you can ward off wasps. Apparently one of the most effective is making a fake nest out of a plastic bag to make wasps think there is already a colony in residence. I tend to just make a large pile of all the fallen apples in a corner of the garden which I keep well watered. It attracts most of the wasps away from the areas where we want to sit but there are some good tips here.
