In an effort to save money on the grocery bills I have been trying out a lot of supermarket own brands with varied results. I tend to shop somewhere else every time choosing the supermarket that works out cheapest for my fortnightly shop. Last shop it was Asda and I tried their own brand salad cream. I can honestly say this is one of the most disgusting products I have tried yet. There wasn’t really anything right with it, the taste was awful and the consistency worse.
This week went slightly better with Tesco essentials unsalted butter and their own brand everyday yogurts. Both very tasty and about half the price I would usually pay. Another winner is Sainsbury’s own brand tomato ketchup which I think actually tastes better than the Heinz alternative. These small changes do save some money but it is definitely a case of experimenting to see which are actually edible.
