I consider a bedtime story an essential part of our bedtime routine so was surprised to read this article which suggests the bedtime story is dying out. If the article is correct a third of parents do not read their child a bedtime story with the average child getting three bedtime stories a week. What is perhaps worse is that a quarter of children under the age of seven do not own a single book.
Parents blame a lack of time and being too stressed as reasons they do not read a bedtime story. Having children can be stressful but it’s a sad day when you can’t make time for a bedtime story, particularly when studies have shown that children who do have bedtime stories perform better than those that go without.
