At A time when many people might be considering cutting back on certain meat products, scientists are urging us to halve our meat consumption. A UN study has shown how farming practices destroy the natural world. One thing that could avoid severe environmental damage is if people eat half as much meat as usual. The current horsemeat scandal has been seen as a good time to publicise the problems of meat consumption including the consumption of grain by intensively farmed livestock which could be better used for human consumption. The intensive use of fertilisers, pesticides and herbicides is also seen as a huge risk to the environment. The answer it seems could be putting more vegetables on your plate and less meat. Alternatively eating more chicken and pork could help as these are seen to cause less environmental damage.
