In an effort to get my lively toddler out of the house I have started doing a number of group activities. By far our favourite is Monkey Music. Available on most mornings in our local area we attend the Monday morning Heigh-Ho class for children from 12 months. The class contains a number of elements to encourage the children to respond to the music.
A typical class includes several songs which involve actions such as stamping your feet and clapping your hands or one of our personal favourites hiding the monkey. There are usually a number of props inside the box that help move the class along, such as fancy dress, hats or toy animals. The enthusiasm of our teacher certainly makes this class as does the use of parachutes and bubbles to get the children’s attention. Each class also involves using a number of instruments to try and obtain different sounds and the children are encouraged to try and play along. Some of the elements of the class are still a little advanced for my daughter but the classes are certainly worth the £85 a term fee. I see no reason why we won’t move up to the 2-3 year old classes at the end of the summer term.
