I realise that I currently spend a lot on my children. At the moment they are both in nappies, getting through at least 12 a day between them and with Russell on formula milk, I would estimate these two items alone cost at least £150 a month. I hadn’t really considered how much a child costs to raise but according this article it is around £150,000 up to the age of 18. This works out to roughly £160 a week and covers food, heating, clothing and other expenses. I’m unclear whether the bill also includes childcare costs as this is not something we currently spend on. If I ever get a minute I will have to sit down and work out roughly how much we spend on our children.
