Personally I have never brought my meat from the supermarket preferring to source it elsewhere so have made no changes to my shopping habits. It seems, however, that it has affected how many people shop. The scandal appears to have shaken consumer confidence in the big supermarkets with a recent Which? survey finding that six in every 10 people are changing their shopping habits.
30% of people are now buying less processed meat and a quarter are buying fewer ready meals with meat in or are choosing vegetarian options. Sales of frozen burgers have fallen and meat substitute Quorn has reported a doubling of sales in the second half of February. It seems the supermarkets have a long way to go to convince people their meat is worth buying.
