I have read a number of articles which suggest carrying your baby in an upright position rather than in a pushchair or pram is more beneficial. Certainly my daughter Penny does seem to prefer going out in the baby carrier rather than the pushchair although she is beginning to also like pram journeys. In this article an author suggests that Western parents can learn a lot from the child rearing techniques of more traditional societies such as tribes in Amazon and Africa who carry their babies around often on their backs. We purchased an Ergo baby carrier specifically for this reason, unfortunately, however, being in the later stages of pregnancy I now find it too difficult to use. I will certainly be using it when my new baby arrives as it is by far the best mode of transport for both baby and mother allowing hands free and comfort for both.
