Or can at least help warm off depression according to a recent study. Researchers came to the conclusion after analysing the mental health records and diets habits of 1,000 men and women aged over 70. They found that those eating tomatoes between two and six times a week were 46% less likely to suffer depression than those who only ate them once a week. Tomatoes are rich in something called lycopene which gives them their red colour. Researchers are not sure whether the lycopene directly affects the mind or whether it simply helps protect against depression caused by other symptoms.
