I use Amazon a lot so three months ago I signed up for Amazon Family, a service that gives me 20% discount off of nappies, one of my main household expenses plus Amazon Prime membership. When I signed up it was quite clear to me that after my 3 month trial I would be charged £49 a year to continue the service. For me the amount of nappies I currently buy means I save money even though I pay the yearly subscription so I am more than happy to pay the charge and was fully aware that I would have to do so. I am a little confused then, by this article which suggests that angry shoppers have been hit by a charge for Amazon Prime that they were not expecting. As a user of the service it is very clear that you do need to cancel your free trial or be charged for it, obviously some people have forgotten to do this.
