So far we have been a little reluctant to take our children out mainly because with two very little ones it requires as awful lot of stuff. This weekend we went on a trip to Godstone Farm in Surrey for a birthday party. It’s been years since I visited the farm, I think I was probably about 10 years old last time. I can remember it being very muddy and requiring wellies.
Whilst the layout of the farm hasn’t changed much is it certainly a lot more family friendly than it used to be. Despite the heavy rain the night before there was no mud to be seen, although with 2 small children we didn’t try the nature trail, which I imagine would have been a little more messy. The whole farm is easy to navigate with large tarmac paths which take you to all the relevant areas. It is certainly easy to take a pram around which can be a help. The farm itself can really be seen in a morning. There is a good mix of large and small animals. We saw cows, pigs, sheep, donkeys, horses, rabbits, ducks and chickens. There was also a animal handling area where the children are able to stroke some rabbits and chickens which was really popular with Penny. The farm has very good nappy changing facilities and we had access to a picnic barn as it was a birthday party. It made for a really good day out despite the wasp invasion which made eating lunch a little difficult. I wouldn’t say this is an authentic farm experience any longer but it is certainly well thought out and geared towards young children.
