The recent rainy weather has meant that staying on top of the weeds in the garden and at the allotment is something of a losing battle. It has only been 3 weeks since I last visited the plot at the allotment but it looked like it had been neglected for several months. I spent a…

Sheepdog has 14 Puppies
Sometimes a story needs to be mentioned simply because it is cute. This is one of those. It is simply the story of a sheepdog that has given birth to 14 puppies, twice the usual number. Here they are pictured looking very cute in a wheelbarrow.
First Jam of the Season: Strawberry
I love making jam so always look forward to the summer fruits. My first effort this year was a strawberry jam. The fruit was too good to waste and so I held off trying experimental flavours and just made a basic strawberry jam. I mashed the fruits to leave some nice big chunks of strawberry…
Tortoises End Their 115 Year Relationship
It seems that even the longest relationships can hit a spot of trouble. A pair or tortoises that have been together for 115 years have recently had a fight leaving zoo keepers baffled. The female tortoise recently began attacking her mate and the two had to be separated. Marriage counselling does not appear to be…
Luxury Pizza
I’m not really sure that the words pizza and luxury usually go together. Here, however, is a luxury pizza. Costing $1,000 (approx. £795) the pizza includes a caviar topping with thinly sliced lobster and creme fraiche. It has been created by New York restaurant owner Nino Selimai who wanted to create something a little different….
World’s Tallest Rollercoaster
If this article is correct, this is the world’s tallest rollercoaster. With a base elevation of 7,000 feet it is the highest in the world. It has recently opened at Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado and is appropriately named the Cliffhanger. The ride cost $1 million to build. It certainly looks impressive.
Turning Nappies into Furniture
We get through a lot of nappies so I was interested to read about a scheme which will collect old nappies and turn them into furniture. The scheme is currently being tried in parts of Scotland. The nappies will be collected every week as part of a kerbside collection scheme. The human waste is put…
Guarding the Garden: A Job for the Boys
Our cats have been picking up a lot of injuries recently. We had to take Willow to the vet last week for an infected bite mark and it looks as though Ollie (pictured left) might have an abscess on his cheek. What is attacking them is not entirely clear. We believe it is either next…
Pizza Vending Machine
This is interesting, it’s a pizza vending machine. The machine creates a fresh pizza in just 2.5 minutes. It makes the dough, adds the toppings and bakes the pizza in an infrared oven. The vending machine is kept stocked with fresh ingredients and can make four different types of pizzas. It is also connected to…
A New Project: Building a Cat Kennel
The weather has been so wet recently that I feel quite sorry for the cats. They want to be outside but obviously don’t want to be in the rain. They tend to spend most of their time sitting under the table so they can stay dry. It has occurred to me that the solution would…
